Day two: Off to Cardiff and CASTLE!

The trip to Cardiff on the train was beautiful!

At Cardiff we are staying at the Royal Hotel. It is really nice! The room is a good size and everything inside looks very modern, new and clean! It is right on St. Mary's Street, so very central and close to the railway station. My only complaint is that at night you can here people out drinking into the wee hours, but I really like this hotel and would definitely come back!

After we dropped our bags off we went to Cardiff Castle. I have always loved castles. It's one of those things that has never changed. I love how they were designed, built, used, fortified and changed. I enjoy seeing the different styles of castles as time went on and new defences were discovered. I have only ever been to one castle and it wasn't a real one. Cardiff Castle made me so happy. I loved the walls and the keep the most. I liked how you could see where old Roman stone had been used as a foundation to be built on top of. It was so much fun to climb up and around the towers and the keep. I also enjoyed reading the plaques they set out. I thought it was a good example of how many castles have been added onto because of the Manor house that in someways looked out of place. The inside of the Manor house was all done up and you can really see the time period reflected in the room decorations. The Manor house was added on by the Butes family who also cleaned up the Castle.
