Castle Caerphilly: the Leaning Castle of Wales

We decided that even though there was a lot to do in Cardiff that we would take the train out and go see the castle in Caerphilly and it was worth it! It inspired us to go take the train to different castles everyday, so Cardiff became more of a home base then anything else.

The town of Caerphilly was picturesque. I was the one in charge of getting us to the castle and it was only a fiveish minute walk away, but I read the map wrong and took us in the opposite direction. So instead of going for a nice walk down hill into the town I took us up hill out of the town. Now both of us are pretty fit people, but prairie fit not hills fit. I eventually realized I was taking us in the wrong direction and we quickly made it down the hill and into the town.

Caerphilly Castle was very amazing! It is in pretty good shape. There are some parts missing and one tower is leaning because of subsidence. It took us forever to get though because we climbed up all the towers and went along the walls. The one thing I learned going to this Castle is that I know more about castles then I thought which was nice to learn! The Castle is situated on three islands which are in the middle of a lake. Two of the islands were used for the Castle defences such as the keep and where a noble family lived. The last island would have been for animals and houses for soldiers.  It was constructed in the 13th Century and the castle introduced concentric castle defence to Britain. After that exhilarating castle we returned to Cardiff and we went to the National Museum Cardiff. It was an alright museum. It has some interesting stuff, but I'm not really into natural history so I just blew through that very quickly. I will say that it wasn't the worst museum I've been to. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures.

Following that we headed down to Cardiff Bay which was very neat. It was nice to see the water! We walked around a bit before trying of first taste of Wagamama's, a chain restaurant here in the UK. I really liked it! If they opened a restaurant in Edmonton I would go there all the time! Just saying, I think it is the best chain restaurant I've ever been to, but I don't go to that many of them in the first place.
