Halloween and Other Things

For Halloween I was able to drag my two friends off to the Ashmolean for the evening. The theme of the party at the Museum was 1920's Egypt because they had an exhibit on about Tutankhamun, a pharaoh who's tomb was found intact. I kind of dressed up in 1920's fashion. In other words, I bought a head band and didn't wear it properly and I got some fake plastic pearls. There were loads of things to see at the Museum. We went and saw the Oxford Imps, we saw a man read from the journal of the archeologist who found Tutankhamun's grave, we saw belly dancers along with 1920's style dancers, we did a scavenger hunt, saw a magic box show, and just looked at the exhibits. There was also things like read and write like an Egyptian and crafts, but we didn't do that. The three of us being historians we kind of laughed at the explanation the actor gave after the journal reading. Some of it was a little out there, but it was all in good fun! After that we went to the Eagle and Child pub. It's a famous pub in Oxford where the Inklings hung out. The Inklings are a group of writers which included J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams and more. It was such a fun night! The Oxford Museums try to have something like that once a month and I'm going to try to rope my friends into going again!

The rest of the weekend and the week was spent writing two essays for Friday. It was nice to get them done. The papers which my mark is based on are due after Christmas. In one of the books I read I found my name, Lynn! There's a place in England called Lynn. I googled it and it's really called King's Lynn and it's about 4 hour train ride from Oxford, but I still want to go! That's one thing now I really want to do before I leave!

On Saturday, November 8th, I went to a board game cafe in Oxford with my friends. It's called Thirsty Meeples and it was so much fun! We had a table booked for three hours and we played three different games. We played King of Tokyo, Concepts and another game which is Japanese and I can't remember the name. In total we played five rounds. I lost all of them. Sihong won four and David one. I would definitely go back even though I didn't win any of the games!

Today, Sunday, I went to the Pitts River Museum with some of my fellow MSc History of Science, Technology and Medicine students. After we went for coffee after. It was nice to hang out with them outside of class! We have more plans to get together in the future!

That's it for now! Hopefully there is more interesting stuff I can tell you about later!
